What is “BUHI DAY”?

Why 2/1?
“BUHI” is a friendly Japanese nickname for French Bulldogs. The date 2/1 comes from a wordplay on “Bu (2) / Hi (1)”. Rather than a broad “dog day”, BUHI DAY is a community-born, breed-focused observance that we celebrate together on the same day each year.
Declaration (summary)
We, the BUHI DAY Founders (360 Instagram accounts), proclaim February 1 as BUHI DAY to honor the joy of living with French Bulldogs and to pass a culture of connection across regions and generations.
Five pledges
- Place life and individuality above all.
- Celebrate together every 2/1, across Japan and beyond.
- Record everyday happiness in photos and words, and hand it to the next generation.
- Reject slander, discrimination, and exclusion; prioritize safety and welfare.
- Grow this culture with ongoing, participatory projects around 2/1—online and offline—led by the committee and volunteers.
